Directions

Cambridge to Tut Hill, one road nearly all the way

Once you're on the A14 there's nothing to think about for about 21 miles. The top of Tut Hill is closed, so please come in this way round rather than follow a sat nav to the other end. From the city centre:

1Head out of the city on Newmarket Road, following the signs for the A14 and Newmarket.
2Join the A14 eastbound, towards Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds.
3Stay on the A14 for about 21 miles. It takes you past Newmarket and on towards Bury St Edmunds.
4Leave the A14 at the Fornham All Saints slip road.
5Go straight over the double roundabout.
6Carry on past the new housing estate.
7Turn left at the third roundabout.
8Turn left again at the mini roundabout, onto Tut Hill. The shop is along it.

Worth the trip

What's worth the A14 drive from Cambridge

Thirty-five minutes each way needs a reason. For most people from Cambridge it's one of these three.

First, the marine side. We're an authorised TMC stockist and can order in from TMC's range, so read about marine fish and ring to talk through what you're after. Second, the pond: koi and coldwater fish you can look at before you choose, and pond supplies from pumps and filters to liners and plants.

Third, the reptiles. If you're weighing up a first bearded dragon or gecko, come and see one, ask about heat, light and space, and take your time. We'd rather say not yet than sell you the wrong thing.

Tropical and aquarium

Tropical fish and aquarium supplies near Cambridge

Keep a community tank in Cambridge? Our tropical fish range runs from livebearers and community fish to cichlids, bettas, shrimp and live plants, and the aquarium equipment covers tanks, filters, heaters and lighting. We're listed as a stockist for D-D The Aquarium Solution.

We're a small independent shop, so there's time for a proper conversation about what you keep and what would suit it. We also offer water testing in the shop.

Cambridge FAQs

See all our questions ↗
How far is Ornamental Fish Farm from Cambridge?+

About 27 miles by road, and typically about 35 minutes off-peak. Almost all of it is the A14 heading east, so the time depends mostly on how the A14 is running that day.

Is it really the A14 the whole way?+

Very nearly. You leave Cambridge on Newmarket Road, join the A14 eastbound and stay on it for about 21 miles. The last mile or so is local roundabouts to Tut Hill.

Is there free parking at the shop?+

Yes, free parking on site, right by the shop. Access is step-free and dogs are welcome on a lead. Card, contactless and cash all work at the till.

Can you get hold of a particular marine fish or coral?+

Often, yes. We're an authorised TMC stockist and can order in from TMC's range on request. Ring 01284 703418 before you set off from Cambridge, tell us what you're after, and we'll say what's realistic.

Will fish be all right on a 35-minute drive home?+

Yes, as long as they go straight home. Ask us how best to carry them, keep the bag out of direct sun, and don't stop off on the way or leave them in a parked car.
