Directions

From Ipswich to Tut Hill, step by step

The A14 does the heavy lifting. The top of Tut Hill is closed, so please come in this way round, whatever your sat nav says at the end. From the town centre:

1Leave Ipswich on Norwich Road, the A1156, following the signs for the A14 and Bury St Edmunds.
2Join the A14 westbound, towards Bury St Edmunds.
3Stay on the A14 for about 25 miles, passing Needham Market and Stowmarket. Keep going past the first Bury St Edmunds junctions.
4Leave the A14 at the Fornham All Saints slip road.
5Go straight over the double roundabout.
6Carry on past the new housing estate.
7Turn left at the third roundabout.
8Turn left again at the mini roundabout, onto Tut Hill. The shop is along it.

Worth the trip

What makes Ipswich keepers do the drive

Nobody drives 30 miles for a bag of gravel. They come to see the animals and talk to people who keep them.

We're an authorised TMC stockist: as well as what's in the tanks, we can order in from TMC's range of marine fish, corals and inverts. Pond keepers can compare koi and coldwater fish side by side and leave with the right pond supplies for the job, from filters and UV to liners and netting.

Then there's the reptile side: bearded dragons, geckos, royal pythons, corn snakes, tortoises and more, with heating, UVB and vivariums to match. Read up on reptiles before you come, then ask us the awkward questions.

Tropical and aquarium

Tropical fish and aquarium supplies near Ipswich

The freshwater side is easy to overlook next to the marine tanks, but it shouldn't be. There are tropical fish for community tanks, plus cichlids, bettas, plecos, shrimp and live plants, and aquarium equipment from Juwel, Fluval, Eheim and others. We're listed as a stockist for D-D The Aquarium Solution.

Bring a note of your tank size and what's in it. We offer water testing in the shop, and a five-minute chat often saves a fish.

Ipswich FAQs

See all our questions ↗
How far is Ornamental Fish Farm from Ipswich?+

About 30 miles by road. Off-peak the drive typically takes about 38 minutes, almost all of it on the A14 heading west. Roadworks or rush hour on the A14 can add a fair bit, so leave a margin.

Which side of Bury St Edmunds are you on?+

The far side from Ipswich. You'll pass the first Bury St Edmunds junctions and come off at the Fornham All Saints slip road, on the north-west edge of town. There's no need to go into the town centre.

Can I make the trip on a Sunday?+

Yes. Sunday hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm. From Ipswich the drive takes about 38 minutes off-peak, so leaving at 9:15am gets you here for opening, and arriving by 2:30pm leaves time for a proper look round before we close.

What reptiles do you keep?+

Bearded dragons, leopard and crested geckos, royal pythons, corn snakes, kingsnakes and milk snakes, tortoises, chameleons, skinks, frogs, axolotls, vampire crabs, tarantulas and other inverts. Stock changes, so ring 01284 703418 before the drive from Ipswich if there's one species you've set your heart on.

What if you haven't got it when I arrive?+

We'll order it in where we can, take your number and ring you when it lands, or suggest something that does the same job. We don't deliver, so it means a second trip, but you'll know before you set off.
