Directions

Directions from Lakenheath, via Mildenhall

We recommend the way in via Mildenhall and the A14. The top of Tut Hill is closed, so please come in this way round. If your sat nav suggests a different way, follow these directions. From the village:

1Head south out of Lakenheath towards Eriswell and join the A1065, signed for Mildenhall.
2Follow the A1065 south, past RAF Lakenheath, to the Five Ways roundabout at Barton Mills, where it meets the A11.
3From Five Ways it's the same way in as from Mildenhall: take the A11 towards Newmarket and leave it straight away for Tuddenham, then follow the village road through Tuddenham and Higham Road to the A14. The turn-by-turn version is on our pet shop near Mildenhall page.
4Join the A14 heading east, towards Bury St Edmunds, for about four miles.
5Leave the A14 at the Fornham All Saints slip road.
6Go straight over the double roundabout.
7Carry on past the new housing estate.
8Turn left at the third roundabout.
9Turn left again at the mini roundabout, onto Tut Hill. The shop is along it.

Worth the trip

Why it's worth the drive from Lakenheath

Half an hour buys you a specialist shop, a proper conversation and the chance to see the animals before you decide.

Setting up a reef, or moving one? We're an authorised TMC stockist, so we can order in from TMC's range of marine fish, corals and inverts, and we keep marine salt or mixed saltwater and RO water. Pond keepers find koi and coldwater fish and pond supplies in the same visit.

Renting, or likely to move on? Ask us before you choose a reptile. Some grow large, some live for decades, and all of them need heat, UVB and space set up right. We'd rather you asked first and bought later.

Tropical and aquarium

Tropical fish and aquarium supplies near Lakenheath

First tank? Start with the aquarium equipment, cycle it, and come back for the tropical fish once it's ready. We stock aquariums and cabinets, filters, heaters and lighting, frozen fish food and treatments, and we offer water testing in the shop.

We're a small independent shop. If you don't know what you need yet, say so. That's the easiest kind of customer to help.

Lakenheath FAQs

See all our questions ↗
How far is Ornamental Fish Farm from Lakenheath?+

About 17 miles by our recommended route, via Mildenhall and the A14, and typically about 27 minutes off-peak. Allow extra at rush hour.

Do you stock RO water and marine salt?+

Yes. We keep RO water and marine salt or mixed saltwater, along with marine treatments, and we can order in from TMC's range of fish, corals and inverts. Ring 01284 703418 first if you need a large amount, so we can tell you what's in before you leave Lakenheath.

I'm new to fishkeeping. Where do I start?+

With the tank, not the fish. Get the aquarium, filter, heater and lighting set up and cycled first, then come and choose fish that suit the size and the water. Ring 01284 703418 or ask in the shop and we'll talk it through. We'd rather say not yet than sell you fish that won't do well.

What if you haven't got what I'm after?+

We'll order it in, take your number and ring you when it's here. If it's something we can't get, we'll suggest something similar. We don't deliver, so it's a second trip, but at least it's one you know is worthwhile.

Do you sell small animals as well as fish and reptiles?+

Yes. We keep rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, degus and chinchillas, and the hutches, cages, food, hay and bedding they need. Some of them need company and some don't, so ask us before you choose.
